Travel with Style
Checking my reader stats reveals that people generally find portablemind using the following key search terms:
"Travel Style"
"Portable Travel Guides"
and
"Bon Jovi"
I think that makes New Jersey the lurking variable.
Anyway, because it's important to look stylish when you travel and not be dragged down by bulky travel guides that make you stand out like a tourist, I thought I'd provide some guidance.
It just takes a little thought. And effort.
I understand that the clothes you wear when you leave for a trip have to be functional and comfortable enough to live in if your plane gets grounded for 3 days in, say, Mumbai; but you should also be put together well enough should you get upgraded and seated next to Jude Law or Jessica Biel. It could happen.
Travelsmith, the popular site for travel gear, currently has this up as an option: Women's Crinkle Fiesta Skirt . The best features of this skirt are, besides the name obviously, the dizzying pattern and baked-in wrinkles, so no one will ever notice that a glass of red wine was spilled on your lap during turbulence. Honestly, a red wine stain on your clothes would be better than this skirt. Instead of a drawstring skirt, matching turquoise top and clogs, why not something like this? or this?
Really. It's not hard. You can buy these things in the mall.
These days, I think the best portable travel guide is a mobile phone. You can sign up for a mobile concierge service and get information text'd or emailed to you so you don't have to carry around a bag of books. But yes, sometimes it's nice to read about a place, so check out Luxe Guides and Wallpaper City Guides. Smart, portable and stylish. Travel Gear Blog has some good ideas, too. Now that I know what people are looking for, I'll do my best to mention stylish and portable things every now and then.
There's one other search term I came across the other day that led a reader to my blog - "Sexy Tour Guide in NJ".
I don't think I'll dig deeper into that one.
